Welcome to the official site of the CEWHA!
Gemini Award winner, Susan Hay, explores how the CEWHA
is making a difference in the community by giving people who use electric wheelchairs a chance to play Canada's favourite pastime.
The Canadian Electric Wheelchair Hockey Association (CEWHA) is a national, charitable organization. Established in Toronto in 1980, the mission of the CEWHA is to provide a quality hockey program for all persons with disabilities who have limited upper body strength and/or mobility
, who could significantly benefit from the use of an electric wheelchair in competitive sport and daily living.
The CEWHA was formed to provide quality, well organized, recreation and social programs
to people with disabilities seeking a recreational and social experience. It is open to all persons with disabilities regardless of age or gender, who meet the criteria outlined in our mission statement.
Since the 1990s, the CEWHA has branched out and expanded to other areas of Canada. The CEWHA currently has divisions and teams in Toronto and London
(Ont.) and affiliate divisions in Calgary, Winnipeg and Ottawa. National tournaments are held every 2 years in one of these cities, featuring all-star teams representing each city.
Our goal is to continue providing outreach and expansion opportunities to other parts of the country, especially to those areas where social and recreational opportunities for people with disabilities are scarce.
